About the project

Asalaamualaikum warahamatullahi wabarakatuhu

I initially created this website to only send to friends, family and anyone that I meet; so that they could see what the project was about and to provide regular updates. I am now receiving the trust and donations of so many people who I have never met. For that reason I have wrote this so you know who is handling your funds.

My name is Syed Ahmed, I am a 23 year old Teacher from Greater Manchester. In January 2020, alongside my PGCE, I became a stockist for Qurancube.com. I took on this opportunity from Quran Cube so that I can remain connected to the Quran and encourage others to better their relationship with the Quran too.

I started this project on the 10th of January 2020, after my father had recovered from pneumonia. As you are not allowed visitors after specific hours at certain hospitals, I left my father my Quran Cube whilst he was in hospital to listen to Quran recitation as he did not have have good mobile reception to listen to Quran through YouTube. From listening to the recitation of the Quran, he told me he did not feel alone, which made the rest of my family feel at peace too. After this, I wanted others at the Hospital to feel at ease too from the recitation of the Quran. This is when I started fundraising to donate Quran Cubes to Oldham Hospital. When I started this project, due to the intensity of my PGCE course, I only aimed to provide the Royal Oldham Hospital  (the hospital my Dad was in) and the hospital in the city I was studying in (Bradford Royal Infirmary) with Quran Cube speakers.

Initially, I had started a fundraiser on JustGiving to raise £1500 just so I can provide the two hospitals with Quran Cubes (and other hospitals in Greater Manchester), but on the 12th of January a mother messaged me on Instagram.

She said (about the Quran Cubes being donated) "SubhanAllah this is something me and my Son would have benefited from."  She said her son loved to listen to the recitation of the Quran and wouldn't sleep during his time at the Hospital without it. I then asked her whether I could send her son a Quran Cube (as a gift from me) as he liked listening to Quran, but to this she replied, "My son passed away on February 2019."

After this, I decided that I wanted to reach out to more patients across the country. Many muslim patients want to listen to the recitation of the Quran but cannot  do so because they do not have access to the internet or the mobile reception isn't good in their ward. Having a Quran speaker is simple for everyone to use and allows that patient to listen to the recitation of the Quran.

I then created this website to share with family friends to update them on my project and reach out to hospitals to make it easy for them to request Quran speakers from me.

Since the pandemic began, most hospitals have placed visiting restrictions. This means patients have not had anyone beside them at all and have felt lonely.

Due to this, many hospitals have request these Quran speakers from me as it has helped them deliver spiritual care to the patients. Just like everyone else, I did not expect to be in a situation like this. My final PGCE placement was called off due to school closures allowing me to invest more time into this project. Since the pandemic started, I managed to raise around £30,000 within the space of 2 months.

At first, I was raising £15 for the cost of 1 Quran cube speaker, although the price for a Quran Cube mini is £20, £15 is what I was paying Quran Cube at a wholesale price.  But as the number of hospitals requesting these speakers reached 100+ and for various other reasons,  I have had to source Quran speakers from elsewhere. But Alhamdulillah, by the will of Allah I have managed to order Quran speakers at a cheaper price and a larger quantity which has allowed me to meet the demand of Quran speakers in these hospitals.

A small donation of £10 now covers the cost of at least 1 Quran speaker, and contributes towards postage costs too (Alhamdulillah).

I continue to ask Allah SWT to not make me dependent on anyone but him, and to protect me from anyone that has any bad intentions. I ask Allah SWT to allow me to continue this work for his sake only.

I hope I have made my intentions clear and I thank you all for placing your trust in me with your donations. May Allah SWT reward you all and protect you from the corona virus.

If you have any questions, any concerns or you need someone to speak to about anything, you can contact me at any time.
